The modern car has become an electronic spaghetti jucntion, numerous electronic systems controling a variety of components. Engine, ABS, Traction control, Climate control  to name but a few, Understanding these systems and how they interact with each other is a vital part of successfully diagnosing individual components.

The Fault Code, The Scanner, and The Scope.

No single scanner will work on every car, for every problem(EOBD only gives limited data and tests, and only for emission related faults). We have a range of scanners available, SNAP ON VERDICT, SUPERSCAN 2, CARMAN, and BOSCH. A fault code is only the begining, after veryfying the code, live data is checked, a variety of actuator tests may be available depending on the system.
Confirming a specific component is faulty can often require that specific component being tested directly. We have a range of test equipment ranging from a simple volt meter to our PicoScope, Delphi common rail Diesel test equipment, Emissions test, etc.

Time is Money

Diagnostics can sometimes be a time consuming and therefore expensive problem for the motorist, However this is NOT always the case. An initial Code read and Live data check usually only takes half an hour, This can often be cost efective as some electronic components are expensive. If neccessary, further checks would be advised. Balancing the cost of the suspected part against further testing costs is always considered. Spending Two hours labour to confirm a faulty part costing £20 is obviously not cost efective,
 This does not mean a wild guess, some indication (ie live data, or scope reading) that suggests a faulty part is ussually required. More complicated faults, or suspected components that are a significant expense should always be thoroughly tested to confirm a correct diagnosis.

Modern Common Rail Diesel Systems

The common rail diesel system requires  its own special test equipment, Due to the very high fuel pressures. We have Delphi diesel high pressure test equipment, and false actuator kit.
 Our mechanics have experience in testing the modern diesel engine, from simple leak off tests to high pressure pump testing. We also have the special pullers and injector seat re-cutting tools required to replace an injector correctly. We also have the equipment to re-programme the injectors, Air Flow Meter, EGR valves etc for most vehicles.
